HPV Vaccine (Gardasil 9) in Seoul for Foreigners

The HPV vaccine protects against the virus types responsible for most cervical cancers and genital warts. If you missed it at home, you can start or complete the series in Seoul.

Gardasil 9 Vaccination Women & men
Quick answer

Gardasil 9 is available at gynecology clinics in Seoul. People aged 15 and older usually receive three doses over six months (0, 2 and 6 months). If you already had one or two doses abroad, bring your record — you can usually continue rather than restart.

Who Should Get Vaccinated?

The vaccine works best when given before exposure to HPV, but adults who are already sexually active can still benefit because they are unlikely to have been exposed to every type the vaccine covers.

  • Women and men who did not complete the series in childhood
  • People starting a new relationship
  • Those with a history of abnormal Pap smears (discuss with your doctor)

Dose Schedule

Age at first dose Number of doses Typical schedule
9–14 years 2 doses 0 and 6–12 months
15 years and older 3 doses 0, 2 and 6 months
Leaving Korea before the series is complete? Ask for an English vaccination record so you can finish the remaining doses at home.

What to Expect on the Day

  1. Brief health check and questions about allergies or pregnancy.
  2. Injection into the upper arm.
  3. Rest for about 15 minutes in the clinic before leaving.
  4. Receive your dose record and the date for the next dose.

Common side effects are a sore arm, mild swelling, headache or tiredness for a day or two.

HPV Vaccine and Screening

Vaccination does not replace cervical screening. Women should continue regular Pap smears or HPV tests according to their doctor's advice, because the vaccine does not cover every cancer-causing HPV type.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I get the vaccine if I am already HPV positive?

Often yes. It will not treat an existing infection, but it may protect against other types. Discuss your results with the doctor.

Can I get it during pregnancy?

HPV vaccination is not recommended during pregnancy. Tell the doctor if you are or may be pregnant.

Is the vaccine available for men?

Yes. Gardasil 9 is approved for males as well; ask the clinic about availability.
