Why does the mons pubis become full or saggy?
The mons pubis is the cushion of fat over the pubic bone. It can become prominent with weight gain, genetics or hormonal changes, and it may droop after major weight loss, pregnancy or with aging. Women often notice a visible bulge in fitted clothing or swimwear, and sometimes chafing or difficulty with hygiene.
Fat in this area can be resistant to diet and exercise, so localized treatment is sometimes considered once weight has been stable for several months.

What happens during treatment
- Consultation and examination At Yoonho Women’s Hospital in Apgujeong, Seoul, Dr. Joonho Cho assesses fat thickness, skin laxity and any abdominal overhang, and explains whether this procedure alone is suitable.
- Pre-operative checks Blood tests and a review of medicines that affect bleeding.
- Marking and anesthesia The area is marked standing up; local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia is used.
- Procedure Fat is removed through small entry points, and/or a strip of skin is removed and the mons lifted and stitched.
- Compression and discharge A compression garment is applied and most patients go home the same day.
Recovery timeline and risks
- Days 1–3 Swelling and bruising, which can spread to the labia; rest and wear the compression garment.
- Week 1 Return to desk work for many; short walks encouraged.
- Weeks 4–6 Most exercise and intercourse resumed as advised.
- 3–6 months Swelling fully settles and scars mature.
Risks include bleeding, hematoma or seroma (fluid collection), infection, numbness, contour irregularity, asymmetry, visible scarring and the need for revision. Significant weight gain later can reduce the result.
Is it the right time?
